Tennessee Public Chapter No. 480 - An
act to amend Tennesee Code Annotated, Section 7-86-316, relative to increasing the penalty for certain types of non-emergency
911 calls.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee
Code Annotated, Section 7-86-316, is amended by designating the existing language as subsection (a) and by adding the following
new subsections:
(b) (1) An aggravated 911 non-emergency call is a non-emergency 911 call as described in subsection (a) of this section where:
(A) a single caller makes such non-emergency
911 calls in an offensively repetitious manner; (B) the non-emergency 911 call creates a delay in the response to an emergency; or (C) the non-emergency 911 call results in harm to person or property. (2)
An aggravated non-emergency 911 call is a Class A misdemeanor. SECTION
2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2007, the public welfare requiring it.

Tennessee Code Annotated 39-16-502
It is unlawful for any person to intentionally initiate or circulate
a report of a past, present, or impending bombing,fire, or other emergency; - knowing
that the report is false or baseless and
- knowing it will cause action of any sort by
an official or volunteer agency organized to deal with those emergencies;
- knowing it
will place a person in fear of imminent serious bodily injury; or
- knowing it will prevent
or interrupt the occupation of any building, place of assembly, form of conveyance, or any other place to which the public
has access.
A violation of this section is a Class E felony.
City of Bristol Tennessee Ordinance 95-30
An ordinance prohibiting the giving of false reports or information to Emergency Communications personnel
of the City of Bristol Tennessee and prescribing a penalty for the violation thereof - Whereas, the Emergency Communications District of the City of Bristol Tennessee was established in
1994 following a vote of the citizens therefore;
- Whereas, the City
operates a Communications Center for the dispatch of police, fire and medical emergency personnel; and,
- Whereas, it is desirable to enact provisions which will prohibit the giving of reports
or information to the Emergency Communications District, or to the Communications Center, while knowing the same to be false
or baseless.
Now therefore, be it ordained by the City of Bristol
Tennessee as follows: - Section I - It shall be unlawful for any
person to give a report or information, knowing the same to be false or baseless, to the Emergency Communications District
of the City of Bristol Tennessee or to the Communications Center of the City of Bristol Tennessee.
- Section II - The violation of this ordinance shall be subject to penalty as provided in Section 1-8
of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Bristol Tennessee.
- Section
III - A public hearing on this ordinance will be held during the regular February, 1995 meeting of the City Council.
- Section IV - This ordinance shall take effect seventeen days from and after its final
passage (03/07/1995), the welfare of the City requiring it.
